City of Aberdeen Honored with Statewide Award from 40 and 8 Group
The City of Aberdeen received a statewide award from the 40 and 8 group, presented at a statewide convention. This award recognizes the city's positive contributions, with nomination points highlighting various complementary aspects. The city is now eligible for a potential national award. The 40 and 8 group is acknowledged for their work in scholarships, children welfare, veteran welfare, and disaster relief.
Council Approves $4M Payment for Water Reclamation Facility Improvements
The council approved Pay Request number 13 for the water reclamation facility improvement project in the amount of $4,010,473.40 to PKG contracting. The project is approximately 43% complete and on schedule. Work includes general conditions, pretreatment bypass pumping, demolition, structural work, clarifier and UV disinfection, concrete pours, earthwork, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. Delivery of pre-cast concrete blowers and diaphragm pumps are also included.
September 11th Anniversary Commemoration Includes Memorial Stair Climb
An event commemorating the 25th anniversary of September 11th will be held on Friday, September 11th. The event, jointly organized by Northern State University and the Fire Department, will include a memorial stair climb. Activities will take place at the west entrance of Dakota Bank Stadium, featuring Taps, speakers, and a stair climb simulating 110 stories.
Claims and Payroll Approved for July 20, 2026
The council approved the claims and payroll, specifically the bill list for July 20, 2026. Several council members abstained from specific items due to conflicts of interest, including abstentions related to Dakota Bank, Banner Associates, and PKG. The majority of the council voted aye on the remaining items.
Liquor License Transfers and New Licenses Approved
The council held public hearings and approved the transfer of a retail on-off sale liquor license from VFW at 802 South Main to the VFW club room at a new address. They also approved new retail on-off sale malt beverage and South Dakota Farm wine licenses for Palm Garden Thai Cuisine at 602 South 3rd and for Pops Bayou Mamas LLC (doing business as Pops Big Easy) at 414 South Main. All applications met the requirements.
