Residents Voice Strong Concerns Over Proposed Data Center

Rebecca Wells expressed concerns about a proposed data center addition to Granite City, citing potential negative impacts on community growth, environmental destruction, and a lack of well-regulated jobs. She also noted that local youth are picking up on the negative sentiment, expressed through conversations about her pro-community shirt. Wells fears the town's passion and voices are not being heard and that a few voters are dictating the town's future. Joyce Johnson also voiced significant concerns about the data center's effects on health, environment, water, and animals, requesting a moratorium and a public meeting to address fears and get answers. She mentioned that other areas with data centers are experiencing post-build issues, which she does not want for Granite City. The council offered to schedule one-on-one appointments to discuss these concerns.
