City to Terminate Insurance Services Agreement, Transition to New Provider
The council considered a resolution authorizing the mayor to terminate the client service agreement with USI Insurance Services LLC, providing 60 days' written notice. The city intends to enter into a similar agreement with Randy Jones and Associates, which is opening an office in Galleria Tower. This new firm is part of the Levitt Group. The mayor is authorized to negotiate an agreement with Randy Johnson Associates that is expected to offer better benefits. The new agreement will require council approval before October.
Grant Secured for Aldridge Gardens Entrance Improvements
The council is considering a resolution authorizing the mayor to execute a grant agreement for improvements to the entrance of Aldridge Gardens. The grant is for $4,000 from Representative Mike Shaw and will be used for landscaping and other aesthetic improvements at the entrance.
City Approves 5-Year Contract with Motorola for Public Safety Camera Upgrades
The council is authorizing a 5-year agreement with Motorola Solutions for the replacement and subscription of public safety cameras. Sixteen fixed-site public safety cameras are at end-of-life and no longer supported. The replacement is budgeted for FY26, with funding already secured, and recurring costs are requested for FY27. These cameras are dual-purpose, live-streaming for traffic and investigative purposes, and also function as LPR (License Plate Reader) cameras. They are mounted on poles throughout the city.
Conditional Use Approved for Day Habilitation and Respite Services Program
Resolution 88-90-26 grants conditional use approval for a day habilitation and respite services program at 3309 Lorna Road, Suite 203. The Planning Commission recommended approval with conditions, including capping customers at 15, developing the interior to code, requiring modified conditional use applications for future exterior work, operating hours of 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, no overnight use, and obtaining a business license and certificate of occupancy before opening. The facility will provide therapy and community access for individuals with physical or mental challenges, with potential job training opportunities.
Annexation of 1904 Mayflower Drive Property Approved
Ordinance 262708 concerns the annexation of a contiguous property located at 1904 Mayflower Drive to alter, rearrange, and extend the corporate limits of the city. The property is approximately half an acre, situated at the corner of Frank Avenue and Mayflower Drive in the old Shades Valley community. The property owner consolidated multiple tracts into a single lot that meets R1 single-family residential requirements. This annexation addresses a 'donut hole' within the city limits, and no extension of services beyond those already provided in the vicinity will be required.
