Village Board Approves Consent Agenda Including Multiple Contracts, Licenses, and Agreements
The village board approved the consent agenda, which included several items related to payroll and accounts payable for various periods in June and July 2026. The board also approved contracts for surface treatment, a towable attenuator trailer, large diameter sanitary sewer cleaning, a sanitary sewer repair, a sewer route control program, and a reservoir maintenance agreement. Further approvals included accepting the fiscal year 2025 annual comprehensive financial report, increasing purchase order spending for contractual services with Bnf Construction, Code Services, and Safebuilt Illinois by $115,000, authorizing the purchase of turnout gear and supplies for the fire department for up to $75,000, and executing a three-year agreement with Vonage for phone services.
Lombard Fire Department Launches "Fire Ops 101" for Trustees and Community
The Lombard Fire Department and Lombard Union are initiating a "Fire Ops 101" class for village trustees and potentially expanding to the public. The class, scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd, from approximately 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., aims to provide participants with a firsthand experience of the daily operations, challenges, and scenarios faced by the fire department and EMS personnel. It will include practical exercises such as water suppression, ventilation, and simulated EMS calls, from basic to cardiac arrest scenarios. Participation will involve breaking into groups with fire department members guiding the experience. Depending on interest and availability, additional dates can be scheduled. ECDC Recommends Unanimous Approval for Redevelopment Incentives, Park Expansion, Facade Grants, and Massage Establishment Regulations
The Economic Development Coordinating Committee (ECDC) reviewed and recommended unanimous approval for several proposals. First, a proposal from D.R. Horton regarding economic incentives, utilizing tax increment financing (TIF), to support the Lake Point townhome redevelopment on the former seminary campus. This incentive aims to cover extraordinary redevelopment costs and fund new public parks and open space within the project. Second, an economic incentive request from the Lombard Park District for the planned expansion of Ailatia Park at the Maple Street property. Without village assistance, the Park District could not fully complete the project. Third, an application for the Lombard Pine Shopping Center's facade enhancement grant program, requesting the maximum $50,000 for improvements like roof removal, tower remodeling, new roofing/cladding, masonry columns, and updated lighting. Lastly, the ECDC considered a text amendment to village code (Chapter 122) to strengthen and clarify regulations for massage establishments, focusing on public health, safety, and welfare. All these items received unanimous ECDC approval and will proceed to village board action.
Public Works Committee Approves 10-Year Capital Improvement Program
The Public Works and Environmental Concerns Committee met on July 14th and welcomed the new Assistant Director of Public Works, Ray Hoving. The committee reviewed updates on current completed village projects and then focused on the 10-year capital improvement program (CIP) for fiscal years 2027 through 2036. This program involves extensive pre-planning and budgeting for large projects, incorporating input from the public, staff, and committees. It considers village property conditions, facilities, equipment, and infrastructure, balancing project prioritization with available funding. Carl Goldsmith presented the CIP via PowerPoint, and it will be presented to the full village board later. The committee unanimously approved the 10-year CIP for the village board's consideration.
York Township Community Mental Health Board Opens 2026 Grant Cycle for Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services
Michael Ladon, President of the York Township Community Mental Health Board (also known as the 708 board), announced the opening of their 2026 contract and grant application season, running from July 1st to August 14th. This inaugural cycle aims to fund proposals from qualified providers for critical services across York Township, including Lombard. The board's core objectives for the levied funds are substance abuse prevention and treatment, developmental disability services, and mental health services for all ages, focusing on taxpayer-efficient, results-driven programs. The board emphasizes partnership and has existing intergovernmental agreements with York Township and DuPage County.
