Village Board Updates on TIF Projects, IT Upgrades, Waste Management Contract, and Community Events
Trustee Crowley discussed several upcoming items, including an amendment to the Katie Carls TIF payout to allow her contractor half the funds upfront for materials. She also mentioned an upcoming upgrade to the village's phone and Wi-Fi services, recommended by IT company Proven IT, which is expected to be cost-effective. Additionally, there are draft redevelopment agreements for the old Tascaford site (now Baja) involving TIF reimbursement and street vacation, with projected investments of $5 billion. Dunkin' Donuts and McDonald's have expressed interest in TIFs for renovations. National Night Out is scheduled for August 4th. Finally, negotiations with Republic Waste Service for a new contract resulted in a two-year period without rate increases and the elimination of the e-waste fee, followed by a potential 4% increase for the subsequent three years. A franchise agreement to require multi-family units to use Republic was also included to address waste issues and potentially offer cost savings.
Village Board Approves Pipeline License Agreement
Trustee Burbant motioned to approve a pipeline license agreement, which was seconded. The discussion confirmed this agreement relates to a 1936 original agreement found by engineer Plato. The motion passed unanimously via roll call vote.
Fire Department Thanks Board for Support, Promotes Free Smoke Detector Program
Fire Chief Reha thanked the Village Board for their continued support, particularly regarding promoted positions, new personnel, and maintaining safe staffing levels. He also reminded residents about the free smoke detector program, which offers one 10-year smoke detector per floor, available for installation by contacting the fire department until the end of the summer.
Midlothian Approves Comprehensive Safety Action Plan to Reduce Traffic Fatalities and Injuries
The Village of Midlothian, in partnership with CMAP and TYLin, has completed a Safety Action Plan to address increasing traffic fatalities and injuries. The plan includes a crash analysis, public engagement, and policy review to prioritize safety projects over the next five years. Key recommendations involve improving high-injury networks and enhancing pedestrian and cyclist safety, particularly for youth. Specific initiatives include concepts for 147th Street with enhanced crosswalks, expanded sidewalks, and a raised median, and a neighborhood greenway game plan to reduce traffic speeds and cut-through traffic on local streets. The plan also supports a grant application for a detailed study of the 147th Street corridor.
Village Board Approves Resolution for Fire Car Service Improvements
Trustee Hilley motioned to approve Resolution 26-0722A, concerning improvements to fire car services. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously via roll call vote. This resolution pertains to enhancing building services for the fire car within the Village of Midlothian.
