FY27 Budget Shows Improved Balance; OPEB and Pension Liabilities Discussed

Sandwich Community Television (SCTV) provided its annual update, highlighting its mission to connect residents with their government, community, and each other through local media. The update included a video showcasing their work, which encompasses comprehensive coverage of local government meetings, public service announcements, election information, and programs featuring community groups and department heads. SCTV has expanded its reach through various platforms including television, radio, streaming, digital displays, and social media. They have invested in new technology, including an HD channel and new equipment, and maintain an archive of meetings dating back to 2010. SCTV faces a challenge of declining revenue due to subscribers cutting the cord, impacting their funding model which relies on a percentage of Comcast subscriber fees. They are exploring ways to mitigate this, including potential future generator power for their radio station for emergency communication.
Resident Urges Increased Signage to Protect Marsh from Foot Traffic
A resident brought to the Select Board's attention the issue of people walking on the marsh adjacent to the beach at the far end of the boardwalk, creating mudslides and contributing to erosion. The resident noted that while signs prohibiting activity on dunes are present, signs specifically warning against walking on the marsh are scarce and poorly located. The resident urged the Select Board to install more strategically placed signs to caution people and protect the marsh from further damage.
Eversource Energy Granted Approval for Utility Installation on Oriole Lane
The Select Board held a public hearing and approved a petition from Eversource Energy to install infrastructure on Oriole Lane. The work involves installing one pole box, one switching station, and approximately 260 feet of 2 to 4-inch conduit to bring electricity to a new home at 18 Oriole Lane. The DPW has indicated no objections to the project.
